OK... I am cornfused I bought a 81 F100. The engine is not stock. Its a 5.0 HO but... This is where my cornfusion starts. The casting # is E0AE D3C. Now am I missing something or does this tell me I have a 1980 block? The reason I am cornfused is that I can't find any record of a HO motor being built in 1980. So why do I think this is a HO you ask... Because it uses the HO fireing order.
So what am I missing?

Reason: Illiteracy
You must be careful with Ford casting numbers. They will bite you in the butt sometimes! If you have an EO casting # that simply means that it can't be any EARLIER than a 1980. The casting number COULD stay the same for several years after.
If your vehicle is older than any casting #, then you know the part has been changed. However it is normal to have a casting # older than the vehicle. It simply means Ford did not have any reason to change the mold on that particular part in question.
Ford casting numbers are not an exact science. I've found that out many times over!
Do you have the engine identifaction tag? If you do on the top row left side is 7 digits. In the middle of the seven digits is the displacement sequence number. Example 300-380 is a 302 V8 381-399 is 351V8 and 850-891 is the 255V8. in the section below is a row of letters for the month built below that is numbers for the day in tens built and below that is numbers for the units.
There is a sticker on one of the valve covers. I'll have to check that out
By chance does your 83 have an aluminum intake and a big motor caraft/holley carb?
does it seem to have good power? if you take the engine out and apart, look at rear main oil seal. ford made a running change in nov? 82 to one piece seal. my motor was built in august and still has two piece seal.
Yeh... I had read that. I was kinda hoping I had the two pc so I could replace it without pulling the motor. Right now it leaks (perfusely). Is that really a word? Dont look like it when I type it. Hey I just changed my profile so you can get my email. If ya get a chance shoot me some pics.
