After hearing my mileage compaints they asked me to bring in the truck. Took my 08 6.4 in for a complete software upgrade. They said they had 3 different loads for 3 computers and it would probably help mileage. NOT!!! The service manager is a great guy, but this is not what I had hoped for. I have an crew cab with auto and 3.73s and the 18 inch rims. I have a little less that 5000 miles on it and the mileage has stayed the same since day one. I thought I read that the truck is programed to run rich until 5000 miles and then it leans out????
I got 12-13 MPG with my 05 Crew 6.0 3.73s auto. Now the best I can get is about 8-9 mpg. I tow 6000 lb twin axle 12x7 "V" nose box trailer everyday. 20k per year. And yes I drive it easy!!!
Any other ideas to help my bottom line????
Did I mention that this is the best truck I have ever owned!!!!!! Maybe the best vehicle period!!

Mine has about 4000 and is steadilly getting better MPG. I'm not talking about hauling gut empty I started out about 8to10 and now around 17, depending on how I drive.
My service advisor told me there is "no such thing". "They are tuned for max power/performance off the lot and not detuned for break in reasons."
All he recommended was allowing the engine to fully warm up before taking it to 40psi.
*shrug*
Sorry...but that is the funniest thing I have read tonight.
I sure hope your service advisor is wrong...or a lot of folks buying 6.4L PSD engines are getting short changed. Have you seen all the hp/torque readings from all the comparison challenges? They are using NEW SD's with low miles...and the ratings have been really...really low.
LOL yeah, I have seen them, that's why I put *shrug* at the bottom. I have seen some where they are losing over 100 ft/lbs of torque to the wheels (I believe that one was the SCT dyno sheet?).
I'm hoping it's a de-tuned thing...more power the better
