I have tried a few things to generate increased fuel economy. First truck was a 2003 6.0 a then a 2005. Bought the 2005 for the reduced turning radius. I tow a 5000 lb trailer everyday with carpet cleaning equipment. Put 30000 miles on first truck and have 36000 on the 2005
The discussion below is all towing info.
Edge Juice generated the best mileage on the highest setting. ~12 mpg, but excessive smoke and scary transmission shifts at time.
Bought SCT for the transmission shifting support. BUT it offered an occasional hickup while in Tow/Haul Mode. ~10.5 MPG.
Friend told me about the Hypertech tuner and how great a product it was. Was he right!!! Seeing 14 MPG and engine/transmission greatness on the highest HP setting. Never had a truck that ran so great. Smooth running/ little smoking. Hypertech has my vote for the best tuner. My truck has no other modifications.
Thinking about cat back but want to be convinced that it would give me 1-2 MPG before spending the money.
I tow my six horse gooseneck trailer in the tow setting of the triple dog tuner and I stay around 15 mpg. When I tow the 7k flatbed, I can have it in the performance setting and I'll usually gain about .2 of mpg at a time.
