I juct bought a 1998 ford f150 with a 4.6. I was wandering if i took off the muffler abd put duals from just the cat would the truck be too loud. If anyone has a sound clip of a 5.4 or 4.6 with no muffle please let me know. Thanks

best way to know cut her loose and see, took my muffler off (different truck, motor) made very little difference in sound fairly Quiet have two factory cats,SI/Y pipe, dual tail pipes, low throaty sound, not loud, cat keep noise down, in my case anyway.

If you keep the cats it shouldn't be horribly loud, the cats work like mufflers too. It will have a more authorative tone though.

Sycostang67: The grill /front end of your '85 looks like a '92-'96. The rear side windows look like the '91 or earlier type. Is this a hybrid made up of an '85 with wome newer body parts?

Bigcountry235: Yeah, just try no muffler. You know you don't want the stock muffler so cut it off, then hang the piping with some wire temporarily and give it a spin. If too l loud, go to the store and buy a free flowing muffler.

Well it's a nice truck. And whoops, sorry I used the word "hybrid" in connection with it. I realize now that the only thing your truck could possibly have to do with hybrids is in dragging about 10 of them on a long chain down the highway for sport.
