I got a 78 351m on an f-150 and she stop reading the water temp on the guage. I figure the sender is bad but I cant find the sonabitch, anyone know where it may be ? I think behind the block in an aquard spot??
Couple possibilities to look into(there are always more if these are exhausted!)
Your ICVR may need replacing, or the sender is defective or wire is not making contact. Without looking, I believe it is at the front of the engine higher up screwed in horizontally with one wire coming out. (it's a brass fitting)Try grounding the wire and see if the gauge moves up (with key on). If it does, replace the sender. Make sure and tell the store whether you have a gauge or dummy light, as there are a couple of sending units.
the temp sender is on the passenger side of the front of the engine, between the alternator and water pump . it is a bear to get to, and it is sometimes easier to remove the alternator to access it.
