This doesn't seem to make any sense. When I had my truck at ford they told me my IAC was bad, which makes sense because it flucuates like crazy sometimes. As well as my o2 because the end is broken off and the connection is dangling. Both these would set off the check engine, no? For a while there I figured it was just burnt out but I got around to changing it today and it didn't make any difference. I'm trying to do the flashing check engine light thing for checking the codes which is why I'm trying to figure this out.
Any ideas as to why it wouldn't be on? Thanks in advance guys, hopefully someone can shed some light on this issue.
mine is the same way. i made a tester when i did mine out of an 1157 bulb and socket. never got around to trackin down the problem but i would like to know, i figured it was in the circuitboard.
Might want to check the wiring itself I know a lot of people cut the wires to the light because they where constantly on for nothing just a thought if you go to the site listed below it will tell you how to check the codes with the light not working
Also; any tips on getting the cluster out? I can only pull it out a bit and the plug ins seems to be holding it back and I don't want to reef on it. Thanks.
its prolly the speedo cable holdin ya up.the way i do it is disconnect the plug close to the radio then you can reach in behind and get to the speedo cable. its tricky to get off too, i use a screwdriver and just fool with it awhile and you'll get it.hope that helps

I do not think any Ford trucks CEL worked in 1987. They were not wired up.
I've never really heard my fuel pumps. Unless it's that noise when it first goes to run (before start) and it's almost like a click and then yea.. that's gotta be it. Heh. But that only lasts a second max.
i guess that would explain it then. we have an 88 bronco that i tried it on too and the CEL on it worked so i was just goin by that. i always compare stuff to it when mine breaks haha.
Use a test light or meter to see if CEL pin #4 is working on the Test Plug (DLC/VIP Connector) under the hood.
The Computer grounds this wire (pin #4) to turn on the lamp.
