Ok here is the deal. i have a 2005 f250 v10 43 K. I had it at the dealer to have the oil changed and the tires rotated (I had coupon). They said that everything was fine but my calipers needed to be cleaned and lubed. it sounded like BS to me so I said not this time ($20 a wheel). So my question is this something the rest of have done or had done? I have never had a car that needed this done I just would do it when I changed the pads.
The caliper design creates a situation where cleaning is required every once and a while. The caliper slide pin can get coated with crud and prevent proper brake operation.
Do it!! I have an 06 F250 diesel Lariat. I did not know anything about lubing the caliper pistons. The truck has 46,000 miles on it. This weekend heard a grinding sound when I applied the brakes. Bought some brake pads Saturday morning thinking just a simple brake job. The right rear caliper had failed. The one piston was out one inch more than the other. This caused the brake pad to set slanted and caused a groove at least a quarter inch deep into my rotor. I was under the impression that my truck had the 3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and so was calling around for a new caliper and rotor. No one has them including the dealership. After talking with Ford parts department he stated that should be covered under warranty. Sure enough Ford had bumped my bumper to bumper up to 6 years 60,000 mile warranty. Now the truck is sitting over at the dealership. I am awaiting to find out if they are going to cover it due to I have several aftermarket modifications and was told by the service writer on the phone that any aftermarket modifications void the warranty.
