Hi, i had my truck to get new tires and mechanic said driver side front brake pad was damaged some, so i pulled tires off today to check and change them. When prying the caliper off the side that had the pad issue, the inner brake pad was stuck with one of the rivets on the back of the pad into the metal cover on the end of the caliper. It has 2 spots with the metal damaged on the caliper, and was wanting to have some advise on if it would be ok after changing the pads, or should i replace the caliper? Thank you for any input. Also, would you replace 1 caliper if needed or go with both?
Found that someone had a picture of the same thing that happened to me, but his was a rear caliper in a forum search. A few others posted the trouble as well. Wonder if Ford has issues with this? Off to buy a caliper tomorrow.
Since I had just run into the same problem, the solution was this. You were supposed to compress the caliper, releasing the padfirst before prying. The other way would have been to remove the caliper and bracket together .
I was working on my 2000 sd, and the rf brake was sticking on when it should have been released. It was the caliper, also warping the rotor. Using a wholesale aftermarket distributor, the caliper with bracket and slides (semi loaded)was $52 exchange. The lf caliper started sticking as soon as I swapped the new pads in, and it was $45 exchange since they didnt have a semi loaded caliper in stock. Truck had 90,000 miles on it and it was a very easy install/bleed.
Thanks for the reply, also to note the clips that seem to hold the pad in were falling apart. Hope to get fixed tomorrow, trying to find out the bleeding sequence ,also has abs.
