U-Joints?
Has anyone done this before? I can't belive I'd have to take the ball joints apart to do u-Joints
Please help its sitting on jack stands now... Thanks guys
Remove the caliper, capiler bracket and rotor. Then you should have access to the spindle nut. Remove that, I disconect the steering tie rod also so I can easily twist the spindle. To remove the bearing I back all three bolts out about 5 turns, then use the socket and an extension as a drift to work the bearing out, hitting the bolts via the socket. That should save the head of the bolt, other wise it's easily ruined. Be sure you hose the parting surface of the bearing and the bolt threads with a good penetrant (I like PB Blaster and Kroil). If you have the tools, I believe the correct way to remove the bearings is with a slide hammer.
Good luck! If you can install a ujoint inside an axle this will be cake!
Just got all the parts to repair my front axel. So i thought!
New axel, carrier, lock-right, 4:88 gears. All I needed was the seals. I got the tube seals from Napa but knowbody had the big main seals. The Ford dealer said I had to buy an assembly. About $284.00. My axel shop said the same thing.
I searched the net and found the seals at Riverside Gear $37.00 each. Once I get those I should have my 4x4 back in working order, but I noticed that with an 8inch lift my front drive shaft might bind at at the CV joint if the suspension sould droop more than an inch. That sucks cause I just had the shaft lenthend!
I removed 4 13/16th nuts off the back of the spindle and used an air hammer to remove the front half of spindle. after pulling the abs reastat out it looks like a seal in their? Is this the bearing you speak of?
If Jerk the shaft will it pull this bearing out?
I don't need to pull any clips in carrier? Sorry for so many questions Ive done alot of work on Chevys and tring to learn Fords as fast as I can...
Thanks guys
The bearing I'm refering to is what most new cost concious manufacturers use in place of where standard wheel bearings used to go, because they're stupid. Its big and what all the wheel studs are pressed into. I'm not sure you need to pull the ABS sensor out, but its just as good if you've allready got it out of your way.
My bad here, I think I got super duties and jeeps mixed up, I found something that says SD's have 4 bolts holding the Front wheel bearing in, not 3. They go from the inside out and are the closest bolts to the axle shaft.
I'm not sure what you pressed apart w/ a air hammer.
here, this thread has some good instructions and great pics.

No worries on the questions, thats what forums are for!
Took all of two hours to finish job. (seeing how I'd already taken the old joints out in the axle)
Truck is much better now. Hopfully the crazy steering is a thing of the past!!!
Thanks again guys it was a huge help!!!
