I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with the A/C on F150 2006 or newer. It blows warm air while idling. I have taken mine to 2 different dealerships had Ford engineers down and no one can seem to find the problem. I love Fod vehicals but I can't handle this in the these hot Texas summers.
I have the same exact problem, the dealer cant figure it out (yeah right), according to some here it is the control module itself. Mine will do it at idle but once it starts to move it blows cold. The dealer even went as far to tell me that I had no clue on how to operate the eatc and that i was probably pushing the wrong buttons. it has been said here that when u start truck its better to never use the auto button instead to hit panel then ac button and then max. that usually works 90% of the time. The problem for me is that the dealer never seems to be able to reproduce the problem. I always tell the service advisor that its a idle only problem.
That is the exact problem i am having. Ford contacted me and the service guy suggested adding a external fan with an added switch. I guess I will let them try it to see if it works. I am not happy about this but, all they can tell me is that this is how all 2006 trucks are. Everything was changed on my A/C except the control panel and the evaportator coil with no luck.
mr ginacole, truthfully i dont see how they can feed you that BS that a aux fan with a switch is going to fix the problem. If its doing the same as described above, and Ford is paying attention to you, here are somethings that might help you, when it blows hot air, I have noticed thecompressor clicks on and off about 10second intervals continuoulsy. and the high preasure line starts a real bad vibration. Once my truck is put into gear and starts to move, it blows cold air and the vibration on the high preasure line stops, and compressor cycling stops. That is why i think it is a bunch of BS that a fan is the solution. I would tell the dealer to try a diffrent ac head unit (eatc) . You said dealer told you thats the way all 06 trucks are, I tell you what when you have a newborn and toddlers and you are somewhere where you have to idle it with the ac to cool down the cab(south Tx weather) and you cant move(right after start up,ie everybody parked around you at school game)and the ac is just blowing hot air, and your dealer says thats how the 06 is, kinda makes you wonder why no one else has that problem
I totally agree with you and I feel they are grasping at straws. I will forward your info. over to my service guy at the dealership. I appreciate your help. But, This is where I am now. I have sent them a certified letter giving them 30 days to fix, replace or repurchase the vehical. This is before I continue filing a lemon law claim with the Texas attorney General's office. Therefore, I have to let them make an effort to correct the problem before I can go any futher. As a matter of fact I do have a 21 month and newborn grandaughters and we can not take my truck if they are with me. I spoke with a rep. from ford and he stated engineers have done tests on these trucks and stated that with 65% humdity and 85 degrees outside the truck should stay 71 degrees inside. I laughed and stated that I live in South East Texas with a 100% humdity and over 100 degree weather just guess how HOT it really is. He was of no other help then the external fan he did not want to hear my point of view. Enigeers came to check my truck but the weather was very overcast and rainy, so of course it did not get as hot as when the sun is beaming down on the truck. I don't know if I am stuck with it or not yet.
Hey Krane opertaor, Can you explain excatly what you weretalking about the a/c head. The dealership is not sure what that is, they are more than willing to try anything. Did you get your truck fixed? Thanks Ginacole
Sorry, I meant the electronic unit itself, (the control panel). Please, let me know if you get it fixed, i would appreciate it so i can have mine fixed. Like i said everytime i take it in, they cannot seem to reproduce the problem. I have noticed on mine that when the truck is cold, sat over night it does not do it. No matter how long it sits , the ac will work instantly. There is another forum f150online that talks about having the control panel replaced and has fixed the problem. you may want to do a search. please keep me posted, thanks If you need anything esle let me know
My AC is not doing its job either, it seems like its just barely working. I checked the charge and discharge pressure and found that the suction pressure is too high and discharge pressure is too low; but its definitely charged. I'm thinking its an issue with either the expansion valve or the pump itself. I have an 06. My plan of attack is to rent a vaccum pump from AutoZone. Then vent the system (capture the R114) and replace both compressor. ($170) and the valve ($10) then recharge. It doesn't seem like it will be too hard, but I'll let yall know how it goes. Payday is Friday so thats game day for this event.
I was just wondering if you all had any luck with this issue as I have had the same problem practically the entire time I've owned my 06 F150 4x4 4.6L (since 2007). Just recently my truck has been hit and miss on the actually blowing air. If I switch it off, sometimes, it stays on...or if I try and switch it on, it won't blow...not even on high. It's weird. Any advice?

Same thing happened to my new 06 with in the first 30k. The head unit had to be replaced as a small crack would cause it to loose vacuum and the evap door would then be split between fresh air (outside) and cold air inside making it warm at idle. When accelerating vacuum drops letting the door to partially or fully close giving you cold air at hyw speeds.
It just happened again this past may I now have 159k on truck. Part is only available at dealer.
Hope this helps
