Change oil and filter my 1st thing on most tranny problems.Had a 95 OD light flashing and hard shifts. Changed oil and filter and was fine. Wear metal in the oil really can mess with a senser.

Update

I got it back and sent it to the Diesel shop and they changed the injectors and the return lines and put a new fuel pump on. That helped some.

I have come to find out that these trucks have issues with the fuel sending/pickup unit. So below a 1/4 tank I was getting air in the system and it was creating mischief.

Once I got it back I disconnected the battery cables for an hour or two. Connected them and now the truck is shifting in a tolerable manner. It is still pretty firm but not violent.
