OK, I just bought this truck: 1994 F350 XL 4x4 Auto SRW
It went about 13 miles and seemed to be shifting very firmly. I live on post so I had to wait, idling 5 minutes, at the gate since I did not have a pass.
As soon as I pulled away the tranny got alot worse. It pulled/shifted very hard around 10, 15 and 20 mph. I did not "get on it" just normal driving. The overdrive light on the shifter flashed on and off the rest of the 3 miles home.
Any thoughts...I am severely pissed since the dude said a thousand times it "runs like a bat of hell!"
Lemon laws in Florida???
The engine sounds/runs great...just the tranny sucks...
Try disconnecting the battery(s) for a couple of minutes, this resets the
powertrain computer. Had this happen years ago on my '94 F-250 Diesel
and the problem never returned. Good luck, Bob
Sounds to me like it could be that the VSS is shot. Mine did this recently, and seems to be the same issues as alot of others who have had this problem. A new sensor is only about 13 - 15 dollars and is an easy fix.
you need to get the codes pulled. That OD light flashing on my 99 means the trans is overheating (275+) and badddd things are happening. I would run slow and shift pourly because its trying to stay in the lowest gear to keep the RPMs up and keep the TC spinning and cooling as much as possible. If it's more than a mile or two to the nearest dealership (or another shop that can pull the codes) I'd have it towed. Just my opinion. Good luck.
Yeah, I brought it to the shop and they told me it was the Throttle position sensor. BUT the TPS that was on it looked brand new!!! So there might be something else causing the sensor to go bad....maybe bad electrical wiring?
the tranny guy said that the torque converter bearing needed to be replaced also...charging me about $300 or so for...i got pay/pick it up tommorrow. He is also doing a tranmission service with the other crap too which is seperate from the above in price.
He used a bunch of words I didnt understand but he seems legit and he has been there for 30 years...
Absolutely! That is ALWAYS the best thing to do when the OD light flashes.

That isn't the only thing that will make the OD light flash. There are about 50 different things that can make the OD light flash and store a code. Overheating is only one of them.
Disconnecting the batt should not erase the Hypertech tune! Replaced batts in my truck and no problem! Think the only way is to take it out with the tuner back to stock!
