I have recently purchased a 1993 E150 with a 5.0. Needless to say I got a real great deal on it because it wasn't running very good. Here is where I could please use some assistance. It has no power what so ever. It starts great but when accelerating it doesn't, just bogs down. It won't pull itself more than maybe a 2mph roll. I have tried a new cap and rotor. Checked all the pulgs and wires. Replaced the air filter which was extremely dirty. I have checked the oil and it is not over full. I am getting exhaust out of the tail pipe so I don't believe that it is the converter, plus it has this problem from the very start cold or hot. The engine does not smoke hardly at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
check the codes and start from there, did you pull the plugs and check them? make sure they are all similar and not bridged. it could be many things, start by eliminating each until you have none left. even if you think the exhaust is breathing like it should, I think it still would be a good idea to drop the cat just to make sure
Thanks for your input. There are no codes. I have removed all the plugs and replaced them with new and the proper gap. I have also replaced the rotor and cap. double and triple checked the firing order. It starts great but it only idles. When I try to give it more throttle it bogs down in any gear, neutral or park. This happens when the engine first starts or even when it has been running for a half hour or so. The exhaust seems to be flowing extremely well.
have you checked fuel pressure? possible that the filter is badly plugged? to me it sounds like there is lack of fuel or that the exhaust is badly plugged. I am not a tranny guy but does the motor see a heavy load when you try to move the van? or are you for sure that it is bogging?
Also check the timing.
I agree with Nubvan; I would first check the fuel pressure, filter and pump. Does the engine seem to run OK and it just won't move? Or does it go into gear but doesn't run well enough to move.
Not wanting to move or only moving at 1-2 mph is likely a fried transmission. Usually, if the motor runs, it can move the van if the tranmission works.
I agree all around. Fuel pressure or cat plugged. I had an 88 E-350 that would start and idle fine, but it would not move an inch. There seemed to be proper exhaust but when they pulled the cat, it was plugged. Worked great after that.
Thanks to everyone that replied to my delema. Today I ran a check on the fuel pressure just to find that it was correct as well. I also checked the timing, the egr valve and all the vacuum lines as well as every thing that hooks up to them. Somewhere around 4:00pm I just got pissed at the thing and decided to do the only thing I hadn't done yet. I broke out the sawzall and cut off that cat. It now runs just great, squeals the tires and all. Anyway this problem has been solved. Too bad I didn't listen sooner, I would have saved a few days and a towing bill.
I would think so. If only I had used a little common sense as well as listened to the v ery wise and almighty people here in this forum I could saved myself a lot of time and time is money isn't it?
