Sorry I didn't see the truck specs in your sig before. Yeah that is going to be a 2G alternator and it's not going to be capable of running an electric fan. A 3G alternator upgrade is typically a good upgrade to do anyways, you might want to consider this... There are instructions and parts available at fordfuelinjection:
yea i was actually just looking at a junk yards inventory and they have a 3g 95 amp for $35-$60 depends if it has 2 or 3 mounting points and i dont remember how many i have will look in the morning
and a post on here said that you can use the same carrier bearing just seeing if that is right or not. To me i would say that you need a new one since you are changing ratios.
Yes you CAN use the same carrier bearing....but it would make no sense to do so considering how much it costs and how much work is involved in replacing it. I would never reuse a carrier bearing if I had a rear end apart.
The carrier bearing has nothing to do with changing ratios. It's just one of those things you might as well replace as long as you are changing the gears.
Not just your carrier bearing... The entire carrier housing. I believe the spider gears get reused.
Spider gears wear, the carrier does not...so I would tend to think that spider gears would be more worth while to replace. The carrier is only replaced if runout is out of spec (very rare), if there is obvious damage such as cracks etc. (also rare) or if you are going with a different kind of carrier (posi, locker etc.).
ok thanks that is what i thought it was. is there any tips that you can give us......
Get the BadShoe DVD and Ford Service Manuals....thats the best advice that I know of.
I spent a few months doing my 8.8 inch rear end....but I did not stop till I had PERFECT wear pattern, runout, preload, axle end play and backlash. I installed new 3.55s w/ Detroit Locker.
i am going to change gears from 3.55 to 4.10. what extra things am i going to need? Ex. new crush sleeves, ring gear bolts, washers, nuts, shims, pinion and carrier bearings, pinon seal? any of those things or any other things besides thread locker rear cover seal those kinds of things and could I get them from a local parts store.
In addition to what you listed you will need...
-Ring gear
-Pinion nut (is that what you meant by "nuts"?)
-Spider gears and/or carrier possibly...depending on your goals and if they are worn/bent
-Axles (always a good idea to replace I think)
-Axle bearings and seals
-Marking compound
-Gear oil
...you will also need several special and generic tools as well as shop equipment. A good source of info and specs would be a must unless you alredy have all that memorized.
