Help. My passenger side headlight is burned out. How do I get the headlamp out to replace it?
It's a bitch to replace a bulb on one of those ford, i can tell, did it about 4 times already.
which side is it, i hope the passenger side for you, if not u will have to have very tiny hands to get between the headlight and the coolantreservoir, i did my buddys twice and my dads twice, i was the only one that fit my hands between there, none of my friends was able to, neither was my dad haha.
just take the connector off the back of the headlight, turn the round plastic cover on the end of the bulb and pull it out, put the new bulb back in(be sure not to touch the bulb, but hold on to the frame of the bulb or else you will have to replace it again next week).
turn the round plastic cover tight and put the connector back on there and you're set.
NOTE: Make sure that the headlamp switch and the ignition switch are in the OFF position.
Remove the headlamp assembly.
Raise the headlamp retainers by pushing rearward and pulling up.
Disconnect the headlamp electrical connector.
Remove the headlamp assembly
Rotate the headlamp bulb retainer counterclockwise and remove
Remove the headlamp bulb.
Do not touch the bulb when you install it. If you can get to it from the back without removing the assembly is another way to go.
i have done it Rons way, but if you look real close there is a steel thin strap up at the top of the light that goes straigh down and clips the plastic adjuster screw anchors. if you grab the strap and pull up an inch, the retainers will be loose and you can pry the headlight assembly out from the truck, then reach behind and turn the bubl retainer 1/4 turn. really pisses you off when you find this after doing it Rons way a few times. been there done that.
These headlights are by far the easiest I have ever seen. I have replaced both headlights in under 2 minutes. And the fog lights are even easier...
My '91 GMC was easier than the 2000 F150 thats for sure.
but if you got some small hands, so you can reach the back of the lights easy, its indeed one of the easiest you will find.

Why try to cram your hands behind the headlight, when all you have to do is pull on the tabs and have the headlight basically fall out into your lap? Or are the '00's different?

i'm not sure, but that's the only way i figured to replace the bulb.
i will check if your way works on my dads f150, if it does, thanks for the heads up, will save me a pair of scratched hands
I've done it Dan's way and it's by far the easiest. I've had to replace both headlights. About a year apart from one another. I haven't had to do the corner markers yet. I'm surpised those are lasting, considering I have an aftermarket keyless entry and remote start that flashes the parking lights.
I try at all costs to NOT pull the whole headlamp assembly. They can be hard to get back in and aligned correctly. The P. side is far easier than the D. side to simply remove the bulb from the back. I don't have small hands and even I can get the P. side out without a problem. The D. side is a different story.
Did it per the instructions from Ultramagdan. Couldn't have been easier. Pulled up in the parking lot of the auto parts store, took the lamp out, walked in, bought the bulb, replaced it, walked back out and re-installed. Took maybe 15 minutes including 5 minutes of BSing with the guy behind the counter. Thanks to all, especially Ultramagdan.
