Burning out headlight switches
I replaced the headlight switch in my 87 ranger 8 months ago because my headlights would flicker off and on while driving (trust me not a happy feeling). The new switch had now totally burned out. I still have parking and dash lights but no headlights. The high beam low beam indicator on the dash does not work now either. Lately, just before the current switch burned out I would sometimes have to flick between high and low beams to get them to come on. Can anyone give me any idea what might be wrong? And how I could fix it?

Birdman, sounds like your headlight switch may be OK and trouble is in your dimmer switch or connector going to it. Don't know how much of it you can reach on that model without pulling steering wheel though. Good luck. Don

Burning out headlight switches
Birdman, I beleive your dimmer switch is connected to your turn signal lever. Power goes from headlight switch, through dimmer switch to headlights(or relay, I'm not sure on your model). If turn signal lever activates high/low beams, then try to remove cover to get at dimmer switch. Hope this helps. Don
