Got a '02 F350 DRW PSD and took it on my first long trip 500 miles up in the Sierra's. Went to check the fluids and such and the hood latch lever won't unlatch the hood. It feels a little sloppy like maybe the cable broke?
So how do I get in before I go back? Anybody know a way to release the hood if the cable to the latch is broken?
have someone pull the latch while you raise the hood ... if that doesnt work pull the latch and go to the front of ur truck give it a good couple of taps on the front center should release the hood then ...
On my 99 you can get at the latch through the grill by pushing the rubber air dam over the a/c condenser out of the way. if the break is mid cable you should be able to get some pliers on it and pop the latch. If the break is at the end of the cable, I can't see any way of getting something in there to trigger the lever that the cable pulls. Maybe a screwdriver where the latch grabs the strike on the hood? Good luck.
Thanks to both you guys. I couldn't break it free by leaning on it at the same time having the release pulled. I got up under the air dam and found the cable in its protective sheath, pulled it and it popped open! Looking at the latch and having the release pulled inside the cab and it moves like it's opening the latch - but it won't. But at least I have a way to get under the hood going back and I'll see if I can figure it out when I get back home
Any updates on adjusting the hood latch? After pulling the inside lever, the hood opens about 30% of the time. I usually have to pull the inside lever 2 or 3 times for it to release.
Also, when it does release, the hood does not "pop up" an inch so you can reach in and manually release the safety.
