Well, from what i hear, the condensation underneath my oil cap is apparently the result of a busted gastket...I have no idea...I am running out of hope for this truck
if so clean the cap...and take your truck for a 5-10 minute drive....check cap....residue should be there.......now wipe again and take it for about a 30 min drive....and drive it hard!!......then check cap....whats the result?...if its a clean cap...you got nothing to worry about!
the reason the residue forms is becuase the filler neck is so far up from the valve cover...and in short drives condensation forms.
That is usually a sign of short trips not letting the oil heat up enough to burn of any condensation and or a bad PCV valve not evecuating the system properly. If there is no sign of milky residue on the dipstick, then you just need to take it on a long drive to get things good and hot inside the engine.
As I stated in another post I think your bearings are bad from coolant leaking into the oil!
Get a UOA to determine this! They only cost $15-$20! Call your local Caterpillar dealer or any tractor company! Look under "Lubricants" in the yellow pages!
If its detonation then yes,it will sound like a diesel. The 4.2V6 is known for carbon build up and bad detonation from it.But,if your bearings are bad then you could hear a slight knocking, which could also sound like a diesel,in a way.
Are you having to add coolant or is the tank low?
