i am looking to getting a PTO unit for my truck. i am kicking around running one as a general all around accessory PTO such as hydraulics or an air compressor head.
where can i get one?
also, would i be able to run the PTO running down the road? are there any shift on the fly units?
help get me going so i can dig a lil deeper in this
the only ones i know of that are shift on the fly are not the traditional pto's run off the trans. they bolt to the motor and have an a\c compressor styled clutch on them, even those arent suppose to be run over 1500
ok then scratch the SOF idea... i can deal with the traditional PTO. what is the name of a company that does PTO for our trucks? is it chelsea or koenig?
ive been wondering about the PTO thing also. i searched the net and couldnt find anything. finding stuff to run off the pto aint a problem its finding the actual PTO unit that bolts to our trannies.
i have a muncie unit on my truck with a hydraulic pump that goes right to it. this one has a 2k rpm limit on it. i use it to run the balebed and a winch one of theese days. actually the pto's are kinda easy to find since there were a ton of ford powerstroke tow trucks and bucket trucks around.
what is the technical, more specific transmission model for our ZF-5 speeds!
any of these?

i never thought about tow trucks and bucket trucks, but unfortunatly there are no slavage yards that has anything like that arround here. i have a hard enought time finding regular parts for my truck in yards arround here. ive got one salvage yard that specializes in fords, but they are about out of parts for our body style trucks and they almost never have a diesel. they only try to keep late model parts and charge new part prices.
for example they want $300 for an IDM
