Can the PTO option be added to a 5R110W TorqShift ?
Or is it a impossible thing to do?
The use was for a hydraulic winch or would the one that you
use the power steering pump for the power?
I am just a snooping around this idea.
If your trans has the PTO option there is a plate on the side for the PTO pump to bolt on. If it doesn't have the plate you can replace the trans with one that has it. It is impossible to add it to a trans that doesn't have one.
Mark does the tranny designed for the PTO and one that isn't have any difference in the gearing ratio? I have often wondered about that?
I have a friend that wants to try swapping the guts from one tranny to another so he can build a new wrecker truck. I didn't know what to tell him. Tranny's aren't really my thing.
Thanks for the info. I went out last night in the rain to get an answer to
this question for once and for all. Poked my flashlight under the truck
and had a look. Damm NO PTO plate. And I really don't feel like replacing
the transmission at this point. So it will be an electric winch after all.
Yes that was one other option. I just did not know who makes them.
The nice thing about a hydraulic winch is you don't have to worry about
over heating a winch motor and/or killing the charging system. Yes they
are slow but will putt a BIG load. The only question would be how well
would it get along with the hydro-boost system.

I think the stock set-up is fine for pulling etc. But an upgraded pump would be needed if you plan on running the winch while steering and applying the brakes all at the same time.
We have 3 F550 6.0 trucks at work that have engine mounted PTO pumps to run vacuum scavenge pumps. Uses V-belts and makes quite a mess of the fan shroud etc, but it works well.
If I were to get a winch and planned on using it a lot I would go the Mile Marker route myself. Occasional use I see no issue with an electric as long as the OEM 6G alternator is ditched for something else.
I agree the electrical system on the 6.0L is not something you
want to stress. I have always liked the idea of the hydraulic winch
do to the duty cycle and not needing the cool down time of the electric
ones. Now to find the bumper I want to go with it. All I need is a bucket
load of $$$$$$$
