hey guys, its been awhile. but i have what might be a stupid question. i have an 89 f250 4x4 with alot of rust. well i am thinking about de-rusting this beast. every panel has rust.
my question is is it worth doing it.
i only paid 500 for it. it runs good and the frame is in pretty good shape. i don't really want to go and get another truck, cause it is like quitting a job for another, just trading in a set of problems for an unknown set of problems,
another thing has anyone done this? and would anyone have any idea how much it would cost. i use it as my daily driver so i would rather pay a body shop to do it and have it done rather quick, that and i have never done any kind of body work.
thanks and sorry for so long
i cant tell how rusty it is but if it is reasonable then go for it, are you gonna replace the pannels or just strip them and paint them? you can also try rust blockers and preventers, http://www.por15.com/ the por 15 is great stuff and dries hard as a rock
i would probably have to replace panels, and the bed would have to be replaced it has been riden hard and put away wet a few times, the cab corners are rusting, the door skins and the front fenders are both rusting pretty good. like i said rusting on every panel my dad calls it neil young for the album
frame is strong. has surface rust on it nothing major. the front still has some of the factory coating on it. a couple of months ago i had 3900 pounds of stone in the back end and it went straight and drove good.
As for fixing your It just depends how bad your panels are..
But I had a truck new motor /trans and time for body work . A bed is $600-1000+ . OR To fix with panels is $400-600+ . Tailgate $100+ (factory ) Doors $100x2. (lots of em here) Fenders $65 a side. Cabcorners for sc 65x2 ,front core support $150
I'd have $1500 in stuff i could see . Not counting cab bushing or rockers not counting paint
I found a rust free original paint truck with bad motor (sure had to drive 500 mile sot haul home. Got it fir $1200 + $250 trip So $1450
The paint job on old truck was $1200 with me doing most work . Its was way cheaper and I sold mine for parts .
But you could use the new "parts truck to fix you old one. and save $ .
But the aftermarket parts are easy to find if cant find good stocker. Taking your time you can bolt fenders doors on. Save $$$ At shop .
Also check with local trades schools/high schools . They have shop classes that do body work for a discount . The best job maybe not but your truck will look 100% better .
Have fun I'd fix your old one up.
we have a local trade school in town that will do it for the cost of the parts. but this is my daily driver and they would have it for quite a while, that is my only concern with that. but i agree that fixing it would be the best idea.
