By the way, the only neoprene oil pan gasket available from Ford was for later blocks which used two different size bolts. I had to enlarge a few of the front holes (steel crush inserts) to work on my '71 block (D1VE)
where are you located? i bought a 89 460 thinking I could use the heads off of it for my 93. not working out as easily as I had hoped. If I end up buying a rebuilt head (see my previous posts) I will be selling what I have. I bought the 89 460 as a "complete" motor. but have pulled the intake and heads off to use on the 93, so the engine is in pieces right now, but still is "complete" minus the gaskets you'll need to put it back together...
I'm in KY.
I was looking for a drop-in replacement (the auction ended a while back). My motor has what I fully suspect is a broken ring in #1. And with 160K hard farm miles on the truck (including countless hours of idling, pulling WAY too heavy loads at a snail's pace, etc), I don't really see a full rebuild being worth the $ if the machine shop has to get involved.
I have done 302's and Jeep 258's before, but I don't have heavy-duty enough equipment to do the work myself on a 385 series, so I was just going to pay local mechanic to do the old pull-n-replace.
