Hi all again. I just had two quick questions... Does anyone know what problems to look for when my trip meter resets itself? If I reset it to 0 at a fuel station, randomly it will reset later such as 100 miles later or 50 miles later. Is my cluster shot or is there a known issue?? And my second question is, do the factory frames have any welds on them? I had a very nice looking weld going down vertically on the frame as if a new front portion was sectioned in right below the front of the cab... Is this factory or an accident reconstruction? Thanks for any insight!
Not sure on the trip meter, but on the weld, mine has the same thing, 99 CC long box, believe it is factory, I asked about it once but forgot about it.
Ahh I see... I was going to say, whoever welded it did a really fine job... Very relieved to know it is factory... Truck is a CCLB..I should have specified. As for the trip meter, I guess I shouldn't trust it... May explain my not so hot fuel mileage... Then again heavy loading doesn't help much either.... Thanks again for the quick responses!
X-Cab Long Box, and I have the same welds on mine. Boy am I glad that you guys are talking about this. I noticed mine about a month ago, and I was worried that I had a rebuilt truck. That really puts my mind at ease.
Have you noticed anything else squirrelly with the cluster? The trip odometer is held in volatile memory, so if you disconnect the batts, it will dump. Mine dumped randomly when I had a grounding issue with an add-on accessory (I think it was putting a noise spike on the electrical system). It was causing the PCM to lose its mind, and accordingly lost the trip odometer occasionally. Once I grounded it properly, no more problems.
Well I unplugged the cluster once but that was a while ago... when i plugged it back in, it dinged at me a few times for no reason... Everything else is good... Is the mileage on the odo and trip meter controlled by the pcm? Meaning do i need to reprogram the cluster for my odo reading if I end up replacing it?? Ford wants big $$$$ for a new cluster...
