anyone know what fomoco originally installed a c7ae 8425-f intake on, any idea of it's value. is it a decent performance intake? thanks in advance for your help- swampy stumps
That's the later version of the 428 Police Interceptor intake manifold used on '67 - '68 police cruisers and also sold over the counter as a medium riser style for mild street use and good low-end torque. It's a very decent performance intake.
I haven't been keeping up with the market on these.
Honestly, I can’t see the difference between the earlier and later one except for the casting number. Might want to keep an eye on it and see how much it goes for.
While were on the subject! I have a C5AE 8425C 4 barrel intake on my truck. I am building a fresh 390 driver, RV cam, regular gas low RPM, you know a commuter truck. Should I keep the Ford intake or go for a Blue Thunder or Edelbrock Performer. Appreciate comments.

William, if I remember right the C5AE-C manifold has the tall intakes that match the early-style heads with tall intakes. What are the heads that you are using?
Also, the C5 manifold is pretty flat, even compared to the plain performer.
Those year heads are interesting, being in the middle of the design revisions. They have the new shorter and raised intake ports but still retain the older style “D” chambers. What I’m concerned with is the possible port mismatch between the head and intake at the port floor. If your C5 intake ports are tall and go close to the bottom of the flange, it’s not a good match with your C7 heads with the raised floor. In the port there would be a step up from the bottom of the intake to the bottom of the head.
The Blue Thunder manifold also has the “tall to the bottom” ports so I wouldn’t recommend it, same with the factory tripower. The Dove and the RPM are fine along with the factory CJ or PI intake even though there may be a small step. Doesn’t really matter, Ford recommended the CJ or PI as a bolt-on upgrade and port matching didn’t show any significant gains. On the other end of the scale, the ports on the plain Performer are raised quite a bit, is has the shortest of them all. They really neck down in the runners, cuts down on the flow but add a lot of velocity for torque and throttle response as long as you don’t try to tach it out.
BBB, Thank You! Really good info. I'll check the port match when the heads get back from the shop. I want a high torque, low RPM 3500 Max, on pump gas with 9.5 to 1 compression ratio. I really enjoy racing light to light! Dont drive fast anymore. Sounds like the performer is the best bet if the Ford piece doesn't work out. Thanks again!

Hey guys, you should know that not ALL of the blue thunder intakes have the tall-to-the-bottom ports. I got my first BT from Ron Miller@FPP. It had the tall early/LR/CJ size ports. I sent it back and traded it in for a 4267B. This was supposed to be for a 427MR. It had the smaller, high floor ports and perfectly matched the felpro 1247 gasket that I port matched my heads to. The 1247 felpro intake gasket is what is supposed to be for the 427MR heads. If you are using the C7AE-A, C8AE-H or the D2TE-AA heads, the 427MR version of the Blue Thunder would be great. It works for me. Maybe Rob McQ, if he is on today, can tell us if BT still makes the version for the small port heads. DF
