I have a 99 f-350, 7.3l auto, crewcab, duelly with 235,000 on it. It's way overdue for tranny service. I've been told buy many guys including techs never! to have an auto tranny flushed? it will clean away all the grit from the clutch packs is this true? Also what is the proper fluid to use? and does the tork converter have a drain plug? Thanks Guys
If that tranny fluid has never been flushed/changed EVER before the DO NOT chang/flush it now cuz it will clean away all the grit from the clutch packs. Then you will need a tranny.
Wash the grit from the clutch packs? I'd sure like to have that one explained to me.
I've rebuilt clutch packs (changed the rings and springs) from industrial applications, and any "grit" would impede their operation.
Is there something different about automotive clutch packs that I don't understand? I saw the clutch packs from an AXOD transmission (Taurus/Sable) that failed due to that mis-engineered aluminum oil slinger that it had, and it appeared the same.
