89 aod, vss sensor
morning, 89 e-150, 302 efi, aod trans, has speed sensor on rear trans,gos on next to speedometor cable, is this foe cruise control only(which I dont use)? or does it have other funksion, pcm? shifting? aod overdrive on cloum not push button. dont want to replace if not needed. (D,D,1).

It's used for a LOT more than just the cruise. The computer uses it to read driveline RPM and load to help trim the fuel mixture. Like I said, if it wasn't needed it wouldn't be there. When the one in my dad's '88 E150 started to go bad it did all sorts of strange things.
