my dad has a 76 f100 with a 360 that came out of a 75, and all we have done to it is put headers on it, and rebuild the carb, he also has an 83 cutlass with a 350 rocket out of a 73 toranado, and that car cant sit next to the truck, 360 aint a bad motor, its a damn good motor in my opinion
Due to the retarded cam timing on these engines what cam and gear combo should I go with? i'm looking on doing a full rebuild, I want to go with a cam a little bigger than stock but nothing to out run the low compression.
Id go with a Comp cams High energy 268. Its a mild cam that will give you alot more top end and still have a ton of low end. One of my friends has a 65 F250 with a 352 in it and we put a Comp 268 in it and a 4bbl, and its a totally different truck, and he still gets about 8-10mpg with 4.56s?? and 36X14.50 swampers!
If you use a 390 crank and rods along with the 360 pistons your compression ratio will be around 9.5 to 1. There are different head gaskets available that you can use to increase/decrease this a bit. Mr. Gasket makes a steel shim head gasket that can be used to maximize CR. They're known to have more difficulty in sealing longterm. To calculate your CR exactly you'll need to know how many cc's the heads you have are, know the cc's cut out on the pistons, top of piston to deck measurement, and compressed head gasket thickness.
