Power window problems
#77
Well luckily for me it has been a while since one of my regulators failed. I am now on number 6. The drivers side front has now failed for the second time. I called the dealership and they are now $174 for the regulator assembly. Autozone has them for $132. The only thing wrong after inspecting the regulator is that the clip that holds the window on the track broke. Its plastic attached to the metal that holds the window in place. Motor still works and all that needs to be fixed is a small part. They do not sell individual components. I may try and fabricate my own device because this problem is beyond ridiculous. This is by far the least expensive one I could find http://www.1aauto.com/1A/WindowRegul...52/431832/2005.

Is this a common enough problem to justify the time and expense to re-engineer the part from better materials?

Thanks for this post, it was very helpful. I have an 04 scab and my drivers side front window broke yesterday afternoon. Took all of 5 min to find this post and about an hour (I took my time) to get the new part in once I picked it up. The hardest part was taking that plastic off the door shell. I took my time so I could stick it back on the way it was before.
The door handle trim was also tough to get off after the bolts were removed. The "clip" for it is at towards the front, see pic below.
Also, there were two screws holding the panel on at the very bottom. I don't recall reading about those in the most helpful post at the beginning (#15).
To make it easier to put the door panel back on I took out the little trim ring around where the door lock sticks out.
The part cost me $151.45 at my local dealer. They were $1 cheaper then Pep Boys.
Thanks again for this great site and all who contribute.
Brian.

6 months & 4 regulators
I feel your pain with the window regulators!
Six months ago my drivers side window dropped while I was on a trip to Bandera, Texas. I took it into Jennings-Anderson Ford and $380.00 later I had my truck back.
Four months ago I was dropping my son off at school and the passenger window dropped. $380.00 again.
Two weeks ago my girlfriend was using my truck and she calls telling me my rear drivers side window is down and not working. I go and pick it up and on the way to the dealer the passenger rear window dropped. I WAS BEYOND PISSED! Dealer gave me a frequent window replacement discount and dropped the price 15%. Thank goodness the company pays for repairs!
The guys at the dealership said that it is common for this model to have a couple fail, but they have never had anyone lose all four.
