2001 F-350 Powerstroke. Banks Exhaust, K&N CAI. I bought the garret GTP38R powermax turbo upgrade, installed it and Im only getting 20lbs of boost . I have a Bully Dog programme and an edge, tried running both on the highest settings, tried automete and banks boost gauges, ran new t-fitting and boost pressure lines numerous time, inspected CAC pipes, fittings etc...everything is good...EXCEPT IM ONLY BOOSTING 20 LBS. Im pissed. Any Ideas?
What are your EGT's like? At WOT they should have dropped compared to the stock turbo, so if they didn't, you've got a boost leak. You should be well over 20 lbs of boost.
Don't know that turbo, but if it has a wastegate, try pulling that line and plugging it and see if that bumps you up a bit. I was getting ~22 with wastegate, ~28 without. Now with WW, I get right at 25 without the wastegate connected. I'm also running the DP Tuner -- from what I have heard, it's way better than the others...
You may have an exhaust leak at the inlet connection on the turbine. It's pretty popular for leaking if not taken into consideration when installing. Remove the Marmon clamp on joint at the turbine inlet, examine the flanges to see if they are touching and are flush.
Back when I bought my 38R the wastegate wasn't adjusted at all. It made about 18 psi. After I adjusted the wastegate arm down about 5 turns it made 32 psi with no other changes. Also, the wastegate arm is not pinned like the stock wastegate, so the end turns very easily.
