Is it necessary to use fuel additives? If so, what advantages do they have? Also I was going to flush the radiator, I assume I should stay with the Ford Gold, Do I need to add a additive to the coolant like the 7.3l recommends?

I have yet to use any fuel additives, some recommend it, however, I think the benefits are anecdotal at best. It's one of those things that if you think it works great, if it doesn't, your not really going to hurt anything by using it. Bottom line, I don't believe that it is necessary to use it.
I am a firm believer in the motorcraft cetane booster. Last fall went to Idaho for a bird hunting trip. Used the booster on the way up (litterally I live in eastern MT and it was uphill most of the way). Got 17.8 mpg actual. Ran out on the last fill on the way up. Return trip (with the dogs and us weighing less!!!!) got 17.1 mpg downhill. Drove the same both ways (about 75 on interstate and 65 on two lane).
If you use the Ford gold coolant there is NO reason to put any additive in it.
There is a thread on fuel additives currently running in the 6.0 forum that has links to a recent test run on several of the more popular fuel additives and their benefits or lack thereof. You can find it here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...ive-study.html It has links to a couple of very similar discussions in a couple of different forums and although long reading it is VERY informative.
