Coolant additives for diesels?

I saw something on a diesel performance site stating Powerstrokes are supposed to have a coolant additive to prevent block pitting from coolant cavitation. Apparently nothing is noted in my owners and maintenance manuals, and the dealer knows nothing (what else is new?). Does anyone know the story? What additives, or is there a coolant ready to use with the proper additives? The information I read had a few people arguing about different types of additives, but it was very technical, and I couldn't make a good decision with their info.
Thanks for any help.
Tim

Only use motorcraft part #vc-8 (previously ford #fw-16) additive in your diesel cooling system. Available at your local ford dealership for about $7 a bottle. Also do not use any other type of coolant then whats already in your vehicle--ie. changing from green to gold coolant. The owners manuals for the superduties are general for all types of engines--you should have a diesel supplement which has diesel engine specific information. It and any other ford service manuals or owner manuals are available for purchase online at helminc.

Thanks for the info. I didn't receive the maintenance manual when I bought the truck. I went to the salesman and got one. Apparently Ford uses 2 different coolants, the common green type, and a yellow. The yellow is good for 5 years or 100,000 miles, and doesn't require an additive. I have the yellow.

You really have to buy the heavy duty (not regular automotive) coolant as these have the corrosion inhibitor to prevent liner damage. I use John Deere coolant in the heavy duty engines I service and haven't had any problems. I've also used Fleet Guard Heavy Duty as it meets the specs.
