Coolant additive question

Can you use a coolant additive with Motorcraft's Premium Gold coolant, ex. Red Line Water Wetter? I have been reading a lot of mixed reviews about this subject but nothing to do with Explorers. Thanks.

why do you thin you need an addative ? most small gasoline motors just need good antifreeze mixed with clean water.
