OK, my fine fellow FTE'ers, here we are faced with (for some of us) a three day weekend, which, according to corporate America, signifies the end of the summer. No more frivolous camping trips, or family weekends at the lake its time to put away all the summer toys and get back to the grind..........
...well, not for me. I'm so far behind schedule I haven't even started the stuff I was going to get done last summer, let alone this one, and! summers out in this god forsaken desert are so danged hot that from now through October is the perfect time to go to the lake...........but I digress.
I have been so busy with other things that my poor truck hasn't even been started or driven in a month or more. This weekend, this long, three day weekend, this weekend that signifies the start of "fall sheet sales" and has the local malls itching to start putting up Christmas decorations I am going to try and get something done on my truck!
Sitting on my bench (which is a mess by the way) is a replacement master cylinder (mine is leaking) next to the new MC is a Edlebrock carb which will replace my QuadraJet (the throttle shaft is worn out on the quadrajet creating a permanent vacuum leak). My plans are to get the truck out and put the new parts on. When I get that done I need to go out to the shed and start getting stuff ready for a swap meet thats coming up in a few weeks. I will also try and take a long ride on my new bike.
So now that you all have read through these disjointed ramblings..........its time for you each to spill the beans and let us know what your plans/dreams/good intentions/etc are for the weekend.
Enjoy the weekend, I will be working through until the middle of September then hopefully get at some body work and priming. Need to patch firewall, mount seatbelt brackets. Hope to start on box fabrication.
Fall here is ominous as winter (cold, snow) will be on its way in about 6 weeks. I need to get projects completed before temperatures drop.
I'm already at it! I have a tech coming to fix a problem with my generator today so i have a 4 day weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to finish getting everything off the frame clean it up and do a little mock-up for the rearend.
I have some plans on Saturday, but Sunday and Monday are reserved for finishing the last of the bodywork. I have the passenger cab corner between fender and door and the cowl under the hood to finish.
It has 100+ and high humidity here this week, so the work will be limited to as much of the morning as the temps allow, so we'll see.
As mentioned in a post within the past week or so;
Finish lengthening the second 70-73 Camaro RS front bumper by 4 inches to use on the rear of my truck.
Start making the panels to line the inside of my box and hopefully do the bead rolling on them as well. (If that all gets done, then tack them in place)
Install the flush mount (H-D Chopper) pop up gas cap assembly in the passenger rear fender
Do some body work on the home made roll pan and possibly re-install.
(celebrate whatever portion of this list that gets done with some good Cdn frosties)
Oh yea, the frosty beverages are an integral part of the weekend. In fact, I think I will start this afternoon by "testing" the frosties in my old Pepsi vending machine to make sure that they are at the proper temp for consumption......
Me I have had my 67 beetle setting for over 7 years waiting on me to finish putting the doors back together. Which needs to be done so I can sell it and buy that truck I am lookinfg for. It will give me more cash to work with. I had this car for 14yrs and it runs great and I am the second owner. I'm sure somebody where I live would like to have it.
Need to assemble a jaguar engine and cram that back in the jag. And of course the power steering pump (or more likely a connection) has decided to leak on my daily driver. And then the VW Beetle looks like the axle seal is shot so differntial fluid is leaking on the brakes so that is off the road. And then, then I think I can get back to my last bits of major welding.
I will be painting my right door and fixing a few imperfections in it before I paint. I have an old door with good glass I have to strip out. IM heading tot he junkyard Sat morning looking for rims and whatever else I see.
I might work on the rear of the bed and fix and repair the 50 plus year sof dents and cracks.
I also need to get my hood done and sealed maybe hang it back on.
Then maybe take a day and do yard work and cookout.
I'm goin to help a fellow clean out his garage, he is throwin away some good stuff I'm goin to help him get "rid" of it.I'm also goin to get my buddy's 68 Mustang over here for disassembly, so we can begin the buildup.
