cab removal

I'm about to start my crown vic frame swap on my 64 custum. while looking for the right cv to come along I want to take off the cab and repair the rear mounts. first question is is there a way to take off the cab without removing the steering box it looks like one piece? Second, is it better or practical to remove the entire nose as one piece (both fenders and grill, radiator support)?
any and all tips will be welcome, thanks

Not to hijack your post, but I also would like to know more about removing the body.

tear down the front end all seperately, leaving just the bare cab, disconnect the steering at the column where it runs through the floor, i would replate the mount areaas on the cab with 3/16 plate, also do the bushings and anything else you see wrong. etc etc etc. you only want to remove it once bro. good luck.

We just did a frame swap putting a 79 model F150 frame under a 65 F100. We left the whole front end attached to the cab. We jacked the cab up at the back and used large stands on each side to support it. Then we used an engine lift across the radiator support to raise the front. The front suspension and steering was already removed so we lowered the front cross member of the 65 frame onto a dolly. then rolled it out from under the body.

We had to do the same thing with the 79 frame (remove the steering box and suspension) , but that was ok because we are replacing the kingpins, some bushings and steering parts.

The 79 frame rolled under and bolted up with no problem. We did have to get some longer bolts as the 65 bolts were too short. Different design on the body mounts I think.

We did not want to seperate the frontend from the cab. There were no repairs needed for the cab supports etc. so it worked better for us to keep it all together.
