My 66 has some rust emerging from the cab mounts; so I ordered some new ones from LMC. When they arrived, they are a one-piece unit, which looks like it takes the place of the old two-piece mount.
Has anyone out there installed these? They look like they could almost be installed without removing all of the old ones; as they are longer and wider.
I'd sure appreciate anybody else's view on these. Thanks Guys!!!
If you do not remove the old ones, you could be trapping rust under your new pieces. It is only a matter of time then before it reappears on the new mounts. I would remove the old rusty mounts to solid, clean metal and then weld them in/on to good metal.
Brett, The mounts are spot welded on the back of the truck cab floor. Many times the mount and the floor are rotted together, as well as around where the door opening starts. I have drilled the spotts and pulled a floor from a 76 to use in a rotted 66.
While fit isn't as critical as on top where you can see tiny flaws, it is a very large undertaking, and most likely will take several weeks to do.
For my 2 if you have the shop, welder and skills, and can do without the truck, this time of year could be a great time to take this project on.
Brett, there are some pictures in my gallery of what it involves. Not a step by step by any stretch of the imagination, but you can get an idea anyway. I have more photos if you want to send me an e-mail thru FTE(click on my name) and I'll dig'em up and send.
