cracked head

has anyone had or heard of any problems with the heads cracking on the 4.2 i have a 97 f-150 and it just happened to me now looking at a 2500 dollar repair bill.Is this price a little high or in line for this repair. not much fun :-(

hello captin, im not sure if i have a cracked head or not, i was wondering how you realized you had a problem with your head was there water in the oil or was it coming out the exaust? or was it constanly running hot?

would like to hear from you on this, your help would be apreciated. thanks from the Dawg.

keep reading the threads here. There are several of us that lost the head gaskets at about 80,000 miles on our 97 F150's. Ford will deny a problem even though it is a variant of their troubled 3.8 V6. Keep on them for warranty.
