Crew Cabs

Hi all
So i found out my wife and i are getting our 2nd child come springtime and got me to thinking about bigger trucks. I have a reg cab 70(on a 76 chassis) so i started looking at newer - late 90's and up 4dr trucks. Then i got to thinking-a restored bump or dent side crew 4x4 would be so much cooler than a just-like-everybody-else new one

So how hard are these things to find in driving condition? not show trucks by any means but something i can drive home to start working on
4x4 is a must, but engine trans combos are easy to change.

what do you think i could find one for ?
Thanks all
Brian

i'm in NE if somebody has one :-)

Finding a bump side 4x4 crew cab is going to be tough I herd somewhere that they only ever made 1,000 of them

They are out there.... but I would be surprised if you could find anything rust free for under 5-6K. I have found craigslist, e-bay and some forum classifieds to be good sources for crews.<O</O

Good Luck!

I have a 72 Crew that is about as nice as they come. Rebuilt engine, suspension, brakes, trans, repainted, new upholstery, ac, ps, pb, etc.

However.

I don't think I would want to drive it every day, and certainly not with my wife and kids. Newer vehicles are much safer and more comfortable.

You're probably right. Who cares about non-collapseable steering columns (what are the odds of having one impale your chest anyway?), 40 year old brake components, the lack of shoulder belts, not having engineered crumple zones, or the fuel tank in the cab, just to name a few items.

Don't get me wrong. I love these old trucks. But I love my family members more.

I would hate to be in the other vehicle when my 12k winch and bumper come crashing through your $50K tin can...

I guess when comparing stock to stock... new trucks have many safety features and good thing they have air bags to protect you as the body collapses around you.

My 69 has shoulder restraints, no gas tank in the cab, no way the steering column could possibly impale anyone, upgraded braking w/discs up front and bias control to the rear.

Heck, I can't even lean up against my 05 truck without denting it.
