After reading all positive responses from others that have installed performance chips, I'm ready to make the move. However, I'm concerned about voiding my vehicle warranty. I have a 2002 F150 supercab with less than 3,000 miles. My warranty with Ford indicates that any damages caused by "non-Ford" products will not be covered. Has anyone experienced a problem with an after market chip? What harm (if any) could a chip cause? I take several long road trips a month and the rev limiter prohibits me from accelerating over 3,300 rpm (95 MPH) in 5th gear. This is a real aggrevation that I want to get rid off.
Read their wording carefully, its designed to scare you but they are very careful how they state it in order to avoid breaking the law.
A chip will NOT void your warranty. There are laws protecting you against this practice and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. You're allowed to install anything you want and your warranty remains intact. However, if you damage the vehicle, they can deny the claim for repairs related to that damage but the warranty remains intact for other claims. The chip will not damage your vehicle.
Its not the rev limiter you're bumping into at 95mph, its the top end speed limiter. We can remove this in most cases but we'd need to know your ECU code to know with 100% certainty.
Thanks for info. So, I'll still need a chip to get rid of the top end speed limiter? Am I correct in assuming that this is in place to keep from blowing the heads and if so, will taking this away be a danger to my engine? Where is the best place to purchase this? Where do I find the ECU code? I think I read that the computer is located on the passenger side kickplate.....

Actually, it raises it a lot but doesn't remove it.

No. There are two limiters, the speed limiter, and the rev limiter. The rev limiter is generally moved up a little, not a huge amount. It is independant of the speed limiter.

Click the "Online Store" button on the site here. Not only do the proceeds help keep this site operational, the prices are very competitive.

Open the passenger side door and look near the hinges for a white sticker. If the sticker is gone, remove the passenger side kick panel and it will be on the computer box behind it.
Hi and welcome to FTE!
Not sure if you meant to, but you posted your question in the 3.8/4.2 V6 Forum. Would be glad to help, but I'm not too up on the F250
