what about turbos i seen a t3-t4 hybrid would it spool up faster and make more boost or is it a waste of money.youu guys have given me alot of good info i hope this engine will turn out having imprisive numbers.whats the must tork and horsepower you guys have herd of from a idi.
I have been trying to look into that myself, but what I have been told is that these diesels are already equipped with a T4 turbo.
The T3/T4 hybrid is usually used for applications that originally had a T3 for stock, and going by Dave Sponaugle experience, a wastegated ATS turbo is enough even for a performance build.
The advertised torque and Hp for a turbo IDI is over 500lbs of torque and over 250 Hp for a 6.9. What I have read is that the Hp is limited by the amount of fuel that the IP can pump out, and the same source stated that the stock DB2 can only push 250 Hp worth of fuel. The most Hp I have ever seen an IDI put out is 255, but I'm sure more is possible.
Last week I had to show a guy what a total eclipse of the sun looks like after he pissed me off one time to many.
Thats one nice thing about these old diesels, you can really show driver behind you "what for" if he pisses you off . I've done it myself a few times.
I can't help but wonder how much truth there is in the idea that the IP is limited to 250 Hp, if Dave Sponaugle is running out of boost at 25 psi, chances are that he is pushin just a little over 250 ponies (just a little).
is there not another inernational ip pump that will fit this engine.
Possibly, there is a stanadyne DB4 pump out there, and it can suposedly pump out twice the amount of fuel as the DB2, but I have no idea if its even possible to make it fit the 6.9/7.3 diesels.
