Turbos

Which way do I go? I need to do one of two things. Put a WW or a ATS housing on my stock turbo along with a turbo masters waste gate regulator or step up to a van turbo. From what I understand the van turbo will produce more boost and is a non waste gated turbo. I don't plan on spending 17-18 hundred dollars on a aftermarket right now so what would you do or what have you done?

I would like to improve performance over all while driving empty and also improve while towing a 36' enclosed goose neck loaded down with our racecar, tool boxes, golf cart, generator etc... Which comes up to about 13k pounds.

My vote would be a ported housing. Most people get the WW for surge issues but you'll loose a pound or two of boost but it does its job. For around 400.00 or a bit more for the adapter, Clay can hook you up with a van turbo, just a thought.

I guess that's where I don't know which way to go. A ported housing is $400 and the Turbo Master is $150 so I would be putting $550 into the stock turbo as to where the Van turbo I've seen rebuilt for $450 and I don't need the Turbo Master, right? But would I still need the ported housing??? HELP!!!!

Ported compressor housing with a 1.0 Exh housing is all you should need with hot tunes/or stage 1 stix. That will allow a little more breathing room on the top end (reducing EGTs), and pretty much eliminate surge. I've never seen any surge on my van turbo with ported housing, and I'm driving the pissstola out of it...

I'm also curious about this. What exactly does the van turbo do for you? Are any other modifications needed to run one?

I wanted lower EGTs and more air so I got a van turbo but never put it on. What else would go good with the van turbo?

So are you saying put the ATS ported compressor housing and a 1.0 (don't understand where they come up with these numbers, I'm sure its a ratio some how) exhaust housing on a stock turbo???? What's an exhaust housing go for???

And can someone explain to me what the real differents is between the two???

Thanks Powerstrokejunkie,
Now I have a better idea of how things will react to the change of a bigger exhaust housing. Isn't the stock a/r a .87?

If you can get a smoking deal on a van turbo then get it. You can sell your stocker to finance the van turbo. I would do a WW long before a ported housing.

I cannot justify the $400 price tag. Get a wicked wheel and put the rest of the money towards a fuel system. You will enjoy the improved throttle control with the RR....

I hear Clay has one coming out soon too!
