thats true he also can go with low pro. earthquake 10" they are great subs price is low not many people know about what they do plus there are other choices. my 2005 4 door crew cab has only 6.5" behind rear seat and I still worked it out to put 2 kicker 10s back there. it took alot of work but it paid for me.but not many of us will do all that
I won`t again but it can be done just find what you like and go for it.
You are correct if he is just buying a prefab box then he has very limited amount of space. Kicker's do like a some air. I never said the IDQ's were a bad sub, just the fact that they aren't the only one's out there worth checking out. Back in the day, I knew several people competing with ID products but it was mostly their horns. I was just throwing out some other options.
They installed a center console, hand built, and incorporated the top into the sub box. It looks like it was meant to be there. I could not put the 2 W6's in the rear as they need 7" of space. Not even an option when I need the rear fold down for the mutts. It is ported and the sound is a little different coming from the center of the cab as opposed to the rear, which everyone is accustomed to. But I am pleased with it. It comes across clean and crisp and tight. Pretty much the same way all women should be......lol
custom built console is a great way to go it lets others know you think outside the
box and they also give great sound when done right. if you like it thats what matters.
we all can tell you a way to go but it still comes down to what you like. way to go.
post a picture when you can I know we all would like to see it.
not bad looks good. I am working on a down fire for under rear seat for two 10" kicker
comps. hope to have working model this winter. the F250 super duty king ranch 4dr.
crew cab floor pans and hump are hard to work with to getthe tones right.
You will definately have your work cut out for you. It can be done but I don't think it will be an easy task. Especially when you build it, listen, re-tool, listen again. Can be an enjoyment though, when you get to turn it up and see what curtails from the design. And don't forget the music.
Gross30, how did you mount the amps to the back wall? I am still trying to figure out where I am going to put my Eclipse XA5000. I don't really want to run screws through the exterior sheetmetal though. I have though about mounting to the seat back, but haven't decided for sure.
i have a 10" kenwood sub and a kenwood amp, the amp is mounted to the rear of the single fold down seat, right on the seat back, and the subwoofer in a box that is very tight
Beerstalker, They installed this double sided 4" wide sticky, uh.......I don't even know what the @$#%! it's called, on the back of 1/2", almost like a neoprene sheet, I really haven't looked that close at it. I am pretty sure it's neoprene or some composite similar. Pretty tough stuff. The amps are screwed into those and they don't move, keeping the back of the cab w/out any holes etc. They did a great job for me on the install. I am pleased with it.
It won't fit in the pre-05 dash because Ford used a din and a half radio in the 04's and older versus a double din in the 05 and up ('din' is what they call radio size).
If I recall I think some people have fit into the smaller din opening by trimming the dash. Do a search on here and on http://www.avic411.com/forum/ you should be able to find some installs into the pre-2005 dash.
I installed professionally for over two years and right after Katrina hit I did about 10-12 double din installs in 99-04 superdutys a week for people who came down for recovery and needed nav. Its not somthing that I can really explain by typeing it out, but it is extremely easy to fit a double din in a 99-04 and make it look stock.
Gross30, if you could find out some more info on that, or some more pictures I would really appreciate it.
I really think I'm going to be happy when I get everything installed. I just can't find the time, and have been putting it off unti I have everything I want. I'm planning on installing 2 Kenwood LZ-6500W monitors in the headrests of the front seats (haven't bought them yet). Then I've got my JL Audio Stealthbox with Image Dynamics IDQ10D2V2 in it. I've also got 4 Eclipse SE8375's and the Eclipse XA5000 to power evrything. I've also been debating gutting the entire interior and spraying it with Second Skin Audio Spectrum acoustical coating, or covering the interior with Damplifier, and then adding some Overkill foam in the doors.
Of course I don't really want to do any of that until after I get my alarm installed. And I'm still debating on which of those to get. I'm thinking either the Viper 5900 (or Python 990/Clifford 50.5X they are all pretty much the same) or the AutoPage RS1000.
do you guys have any suggestions on spacing up the rear seats about 1" or so on a 2003 F-250 Supercab? I made a box for a JL 10w0 and the box by itself barely clears under the rear seats, so I need to move up the rear seats so I don't get any clearance issues when I mount the sub... made one box already, just have to make one more for the second 10w0
