If you have two trucks that are "exactly the same,
and they were side by side on a loooooong hwy, for say 100
or so mi, who would get the best mpg? the one with the cruse
on or the one without cruse. Not just a flat hwy. hills and everything.

Since I'm cheap I don't have cruise.Having said that, the cruise controls I have had experience with recently do a much better job of regulating themselves. What I mean by this is that there aren't any sudden and drastic throttle changes like the older cruise systems had before.
Even taking the current cruise control systems into account,I tend to think that if a person used a good deal of control they could beat the cruise in overall fuel mileage average. It would be probably be a PITA to spend the effort doing this though.

Manual control will definitely yield better economy- if driven to do so.

I hate cruise control. I feel so out of control!

I can get better mileage without it.

I just can't imagine that a human could do this though. Cruise gives me much, much better mileage, the longer I keep it on, the better my mileage is. Besides it's such a relief to be able to take my foot off the accelerator for awhile. The V-10 seems so torquey that even up fairly steep hills, it won't kick out of OD. And when my foot is on the pedal, it seems to kick down every time. I'm way better off with the cruise set to 'ON'.

Never said I didn't like cruise- in fact, I won't have another truck without it. But, a person who is trying should be able to yield better economy than a cruise system. After all, we have the advantage of being able to anticipate changes that cruise can only react upon.

My opinion was strictly based on my driving style. Somehow knowing I have all that power tends to make me use it whenever and wherever I can, so the cruise really helps my MPG. I just don't have the patience to 'really try' to get good MPG. The only way I could do that would be to drive a Hyundai, and last time I hooked my 5,000 pound trailer to a Hyundai, I had to replace the rear springs. HeeHee. I knew full well that the mighty V-10 wasn't famous for it's gas mileage. Although I have been pleasantly surprised with what I can get.
