I was reading a thread on tire size and saw zx250's red truck with the 2.5 inch leveling kit and 315 tires. Looked sharp, but got me thinking. It appears that my front springs look like they may be sagging, but I'm not sure. No noises and it drives fine. I don't want to put a leveling kit on mine unless I'm sure that the springs are in good shape. Is there an easy way to determine if they are sagging or not. Is there a standard measurement that can be done for a 99 F250 4x4 that would help me determine if I have a problem. If it would help, I could take some pictures of the springs. Thanks for any info.
Marty, there are a couple of different spring paks for our trucks (you can find out your spring code by looking on the door pillar sticker.) There was a TSB out about sagging drivers side springs(way back in 00) the way to check is to measure distance between top of tire and fender lip on both sides and compare. more than an inch and it could mean one side is sagging.
Go by your local spring shop and have them look at the srpings, they can be rearched if sagging.
Thanks for the info. That's probably what I'll do is to go by a spring shop. Just looking at them it appears they are losing their arc. I was curious if there was an easy way to know for sure. I guess I'll leave it up to the experts...
instead of making a new post, im gonna work on this one..My 6.5 inch procomp lift is sagging the back a little and the front major!...my 37's rub more now that they are bald then the did brand new!........now what do i do about this...spring shop. rearch them, or what? front and rear, and if i were to get them rearched..can they be rearched farther then the 6.5" they were designed for?
You can pretty much assume your leaf springs are fatigued and sagging. The PS motors are very heavy and with in two years you can usually see the difference in ride hieghth and in ride quality. Some folks do the Spring Shackle lifts, but It shouldn't be an option as this is only a bandaid to the problem. If finances are alittle tight then do the add a leaf type lift as this will add support to your stock springs. Then when money allows do a full spring pack type leveling kit with shocks. It will ride alittle stiffer than stock, but drive and handle so much better than stock. IMOH. Take Care. Country
stoken, I know you can get them re-arched, but I don't know if they can go beyond where they where origianlly designed. That does suck! I have a 6 " full spring lift as well. I've had it for about 1-1/2 years now and haven't had any problems. But I would check with a spring shop or maybe the Company where you got the lift. If it didn't come with it when yah bought it, that is. Doesn't hurt to ask. Country
my stock springs were sagging bad so i bought a rough country 21/2" leveling kit for 270 plus shipping off of ebay gave me 4" if i remember right it did level the truck some what i think it still has a 2" higher back end with the firestone ride-rite air springs in the back it rides alot better than it did stock
