I have a 2000 ford f250 4x4 7.3 6sp!
Another thing my truck has a manual transmission and has the original clutch with 97,000 miles the clutch is getting really weak!! I want to replace it they sell a clutch kit on ebay it is a valeo stage III ceramic clutch for $500 what do you all think is it worth it has anyone bought a clutch like this or heard of anything???
Thankyou
Luke Kslea04@tamuk.edu
When I replaced mine I went with a South Bend Clutch. My stock pedal was really stiff and the south bend is almost as light as the clutch pedal in my wrangler. A bunch of people in this forum have used the South Bend with great results but there are other options out there. I'm sure someone will chime in with other brands that you could go with.
I have a LUK. I also installed the plastic pilot bushing instead of the stock pilot bearing because the pilot bearing failed long before the clutch did and it took the transmission with it. Ruined one of the bearings in the tranny, producing a heavy shuddering sensation in OD on light accelloration.
Now a year later and the clutch works ok but it bunny hops if I don't engage it just right.
I've got a LUK like Dan. Either a LUK or a South Bend will work fine. They are pricey at $600 but you do get a brand new flywheel and a great clutch that works way better than the original one.
MAKE SURE YOU GET A KEVLAR PILOT BUSHING, and not the bearing like Dan said. It is critical. I bought my clutch from dial-a-clutch, but call South Bend and talk to them.
Fat Diesel is you LUK giving you any trouble with engagement like I described?
Trying to engage the clutch and it lurches pretty badly. It's acting like the pilot bushing is worn out, but I would be VERY surpised at that.
It has me nervous enough to pull the tranny back out just to inspect it.
Couldn't be anything else but clutch engagement. Truck isn't moving at the time and I am attempting to get the rig going from a full stop.
Hop, hop, hop like a fully loaded semi-truck trying to start on an uphill grade.
did it just start doing this or has it been doing it since you put the luk clutch in, b/c my south bend did hop for like a week and half about 350-400 miles and i was told after u did the break in city driving and it still did this pretty much try to slip it some and it will start slipping when you start out my south bend works just like my stock one but holds the horsepower
Mine works smooth as silk. Now I've tortured it a bit from time to time. But I don't think that's necessary to get the thing working good. Did yours start out smooth and then develop the hop? Or was it like that from the time you installed your clutch?
It started out smooth and then the last time I was out pulling the trailer it showed up.
I'm real easy on clutches. I feed it at idle until it's fully engaged, then give it throttle. Only time I give it throttle while the clutch is partially engaged is if I need to start out on an uphill slope. And then only enough to keep the engine from killing.
Not real sure what to do about it other than pull the tranny and look. For the third time.
