OK the wife gave me the go ahead to buy $200 in parts today and I am looking to buy bushings and shackles all the way around my 64. Does anyone have any personal experiance with either the Dennis Carpenter or Macs Auto Part brand kits? Or is there another place that carries poly bushings for this year? I don't want to buy a cheap kit to replace what I have or piece part myself to death. I am just looking for honest opinions on what worked the first time without too many hassles due to poor molding.
Bill I still have the info you sent me covering the spring sizes.
I have found LMCs to be reasonabally priced. They all come from the same manufacturer place no matter who sell them. However if you want Poly bushings i can get you the part numbers of energy suspension to do the large/ small front leaf along with the rear. Its a mix and match of individual bushings.
I contacted Energy Suspension Parts the other day. The front leaf spring bushings would be from their universal kit line. The rear actually has a dedicated parts # which is good. I did request that they look into making a dedicated front set since it would cover roughly a decade of front springs. So we will see.
I went ahead and ordered the complete bushing kits from Dennis Carpenter, surprisingly cheapest source. I didn't want to monkey around with chasing parts or putting the kit together unless I had too. I called Mac's Auto since they were down the street from where I grew up and they don't carry the front bushing for the rear springs. The person I talked to thought that was strange. I guess no one has had that request with them before?
I just bought new 950 pound leafs from Eaton Springs with new u-bolts, eye bolts and bushings and they were $390 including shipping. Great quality product and I ordered them on a Monday evening and recieved them Thursday!!!I used my old shackles and put poly bushings in them. If you are using your old leafs be prepared for some knuckle busting getting the old bushings out. My springs were sagging considerably whcih is why I replaced them.....yeah I know that I probably could've had tehm rearched for some bargain somewhere.
Thanks guys. I looked my springs over for any visually obvious descrepancies and so far they look fine minus the bushings. I'll know more once I get the springs off and sitting on my work bench though. I may have the springs checked by National Spring just to be sure though.

including the shackle 6 were required for mine and they were all the same number for my "66". I used 1/2" allthread, some pices of pipe , and a turned steel piece to change and reinstall the bushings, it was still a PIA.
That reminds me of the blade pin pullers we use on AH-1W and UH-1N main rotor head. The only thing missing from your suggestion is a bearing between the flat plate and the nut. I'll check around my garage for the parts to make it. I know I have .125 wall pipe but I don't know if it is too large around the outside diameter to sit properly on the spring eye. Thanks for reminding me that the concept works for this as well.
While I realize you want poly bushings, I just bought the std rubber replacements from NAPA. Why poly when the originals lasted for over 40 years? No matter which way you go, the R&R is a PITA!
