OK, a couple of things here.... I realize that the 7.3 is notorious for a high pressure oil line leak going into the turbo..... Been there, done that.... After doing my regular 15K Amsoil oil change, I noticed that the front side of my motor, just above the crank pulley, is all coated in old oil and grease. I noticed it is coming from above. I haven't spent the time to pinpoint the problem, but is there a common problem with 7.3's leaking from the front? Any oil lines that are known to give out after so many miles? It's a 7.3 with 93K on it.......... I would appreciate any help from y'all..... I can do my own work, unless it requires major surgery, then I'll do the 100K warranty, lol.....
First of all, I was not aware that the 7.3 was notorious for HP oil leaks. Second, none of the HP oil lines go to the turbo from what I understand. AFAIK the turbo is lubed via a low pressure oil galley from the rear of the block.
Now to the question, I don't think that any oil source could leak down the front of the block by the crank pulley with that fan blowing the way it does. Just about all leaks get blown back. I would almost bet your water pump is leaking if anything. The coolant, coated with dirt or dust may look oily.
At any rate, I would clean the front up and then observe closely for evidence of the source of the leak.
I have a oil leak just like you talk about..hard to see where its from cause of the fan..I have oil all around the water pump..down the passenger side of oil pan and it drips off of the oil drain valve..doesn't pool on the ground like yours did..I have looked high and low...looks like oil pan leaking..found out yesterday I'm sure it is coming from the CPS..I am going to pull it this weekend and put my new one..I hope it fixes the problem..I hate oil leaks...
i have an oil leak that drips down the side of my oil pan and drips off the bolt i thought that it was my oil pan so i sprayed truck bed liner on it an so far i havent noticed anything but i might have the same problem as you
