Oil temp sensor ??????

Hey guys. I have a 99 7.3. I noticed oil on my driveway yesterday and began to investigate. Looked under the hood and the only wet place I could find was around what I believe to be the oil temp sensor , or pressure sensor?????? Not sure which it is but it is located on the driver side and is threaded in the block on the valley side toward the front. It is not leaking around the base of the sensor, but when I pulled the plug on it, the plug area was full of oil. Does anyone know if these can leak like this after 11 years, or do I have another problem? Bill

Yep I think your looking at the ICP sensor, Mine just started leaking last week. I got one off e-bay the same page as the link posted above but look on the whole page as prices vary. I got one still in the wrapper for $75 free shipping. Was some on there for $70-$140 same part # so go figure.

Hey chunder.... Yep thats it. What does an IPC sensor do? And why would it be full of oil? Do they have a tendenancy to leak after time? Thanks Bill

The ICP is the Injector Control Pressure sensor. It sends a signal to the PCM for the high pressure oil pressure in the head. It is nothing more than an electronic pressure sensor that takes a 5 volt DC voltage, and based on the actual pressure in the head alters that voltage to provide the PCM with the a return voltage that can be used as a pressure. The PCM just see's the voltage difference though.

They are known to fail in that way. When they get oil in the connector it can cause issues as the values can be altered from the oil on the pins.

Best to replace it right away IMO.

Hey Bill it's Injection Control Pressure sensor & mines going 12 yo so I guess that was the life of it. BTW anybody seen one that is gonna have to use a crows foot on, the nut part of the deal is right next to the head & the sensor part is above & much fatter than the 5/8" nut part. All the ones I see looks like you could r&r with a socket.

Hey Chunder. It looks as if the new revised sensor will be easier to install. It looks like the new sensor has the hex area incorporated into the actual body of the sensor opposed to the old style which has the hex area( 5/8) underneath the sensor body. We'll see..... I'll let you know in a couple of days! Thanks buddy.
