well my problem wasnt either of the two.this truck had a very metalic tingging noise that started about 1800 rpm and if you reved it it would increase and decrease.it was not noticable at idle.it sounded like a loose washer on a bolt rotating and ratteling,or a peice of pipe that was slid over a smaller peice and left loose to turn.
the fix.....ford has a ruducer in the egr tube,between the two pfe sensor tubes welded in the side.its suposed to be press fit,it came loose,new tube $58.00
i used a long thin screwdriver and drove the reducer back in tight,going in from the manifold side of the egr tube,then ran a peice of fuel line down the tube until it hit the reducer,marked the line,held it to the outside of the egr tube and drilled a small hole in the side of just the tube,stoping at the reducer,small spot weld and itll never happen again.
