For what it's worth I drilled my shifter out, tapped it, and put a brass cap screw to hold it on. It goes nowhere now. I'm still planning on making some billet ones at some point...
I would put a cap with some type of logo and glue it in over the hole. That way it looks kind of nice and you are able to get back in to remove it when needed.
Yep. Something nice with good engraving will be screwed on as a cover. I don't want to put any more effort into this one. We have a really nice CNC lathe in the shop and I'll make some up at some point. I don't want to hijack this thread though. I'll post pics when I do it.
Big Red is alive and well thanks to all especially Scott for towing me home. As far as a gearshift **** goes I ordered a Hurst T handle and Iam going to chase me a few threads on that shaft and crank it tight that's not going to happen again.
I doubt that it actually "over revved"... I've never known one of our goveners to fail to operate. I think it's more likely that it was the shock from the abrupt no load condition when the shifter **** came off causing a missed shift.....and still a fluke at that. While our rockers are not the most impressive piece of machine work on the engine, they should not implode simply being revved to 3400 rpm.
