Wow... I missed a good thread yesterday. Born in PA, moved to SW FL with my folks at 11. Went Active Duty Army at 17 (turned 18 in Basic Training -- HAPPY F'ing BIRTHDAY, PUKE!! LMAO...), got sent overseas to Italy for almost 3 1/2 years working at microwave/troposcatter/satellite communication sites. Got out, said I was done with the military, then got a job with Nokia in Melbourne, FL in 1993. Got married shortly thereafter and had my daughter (12 1/2 going on 30). Found out that I missed the military thing, so I went into the Air National Guard -- Combat Communications. Thought I'd hate it, but fell in love with it and have been doing that part time since 1995. Got transferred a couple times, ended up in the DFW area (and another Guard unit) in 2000. Got laid off Dec 2006 and been doing the full-time Guard thing since. Bought my truck with part of my severance package and loving it!! Still looking for something permanent, but being a Guard Bum is paying the bills for the time being... In fact, I've been busier than ever now -- working 10+ hour days (6-7 days a week lately). That's why I haven't been on here as much. Hopefully I'll get back on a regular sched soon...
Joe
EDIT: BTW, it was fun reading about what you all do. I have a bit in common with some of you, I guess.

RN, work for Department of Veterans Affairs. Best job in the world, I hear the real life stories from the men who made this Country. The men who fought the Great War are the Greatest Generation. Also pray for our Nation and it's Warriors and Leaders.
Married 16 years, two boys 6 and 11 (we live at one type of ball field or the other 6 days a week, Thanks Dad I appreciate you more the older I get)
Import, export, laytex, and so on. Maybe you have hurd of my company Vandalay Indurstries? I've really been a union plumber/pipefitter for the last 6 years with LU 422. My dad owns a transporting company that hauls campers, enclosed trailers & flatbeds as well as moving lLTL freight with out 30 and 45 foot flatbeds all over the country. I just jump in when ever I'm laid-off or when I need a little extra side cash.
Ford employee at Oakville Assembly Complex, been there 25 years, married almost 12 years and we have a 9 year old daughter. I also do renovation work on the side.
I do drafting for a very small (5 employees) engineering firm here in North Central WV. We do process engineering, and work mostly with coal mines and the mineral processing industry. Mostly local stuff but we just recently did a job for a quarry in California, and have some ongoing business with a couple prep plants in Alabama and other spots down south.
I've actually only been here 7 months. Nice place to work, but I'm not making jack, and it seems like I spend more time sitting around being bored than I do actually working (it was pretty hopping the first 6 months, but lately no projects have come down the pike).
One of these days I'll actually figure out what I wanna do for a living (I like drafting but I've realized it's not something I'll ever make any money doing...yes I went to college & graduated, long story, I have too diverse of interests)
I am looking at getting a powerstroke, just trying to figure out if I can afford it on my current budget or not
